Tropical Storm Isaac makes its way through the Caribbean with Florida on its mind

The Weather Channel has very cool graphics forecasting the path of Isaac
Because we live in the Virgin Islands (St John) we have our eyes glued to The Weather Channel and The National Hurricane Center at this time of year.  It can be a bit like a bowling alley with storms coming off the coast of Africa.  Much (most) of the time our teeny island of St John (in the US Virgin Islands) is left unscathed but it is often nerve wracking as storms make their way across the Atlantic, through the Caribbean Sea and onto Mexico, the mainland of the United States or, if we are lucky, completely out to sea.  To sleep at night we always buy travel insurance and recommend that guests of our St John villa purchase it as well.  It is a small cost to have the security that if your trip is cancelled due to a storm that you will be protected financially.

With Tropical Storm Isaac that is currently making its way through the Caribbean, lots of airports are already closed.  American Airlines cancelled their flights from Miami to St Thomas for today and their flights out of St Thomas for tomorrow.

At this point, while we are getting bands of clouds and some rain St John has also had some blue sky today.  Not so tomorrow I bet.  Watch the storm pass from the safety of our St John webcam

The skies are gray but as of 5 PM Wednesday we can even see some blue sky
over St John in advance of Tropical Storm Isaac arriving
